gotta get my run on

→ Ask me anything
im trying very hard to talk myself out of my maiden voyage swim today.
I’m still covered in bruises from the quad accident and my ankle is still a bit wonky so i cant tell if im just being a loser about it because i dont want to do it today or if these are legit concerns. I mean, i still have open wounds on my elbows. does anyone really want Scabby Scabberton in the pool with them?
id be totally grossed out by me if I were in the pool and saw me coming.

And the eyes (ouches) have it

So quads are much harder work than they look like. You feel somewhat stable because it’s 4 wheels. But this is why cars have sides. Made of steel. And roofs. Without going into the gory details it will suffice to say that most people get to practice driving a quad somewhere other than the road. Where other cars also drive. We did not have that luxury. So we ended up flipped on the road banged up and our weekend ruined. YP with a bruised bone in her elbow and me with a sprained ankle and looking like I got taken out by a prize fighter I was bummed until I got in the hotel pool and realized it didn’t hurt to swim. So tomorrow I go get a speedo/goggles and start swimming.

Remember how YP was pushing for me to do a tri instead of a marathon?
Looks like she got consensus from my sprained foot.

running through here would be nicer than running in the gym.

alls well that ends mediocrely

is that even a word?

i realized that i really like to run when i first wake up because i am still asleep and not yet conscious of the fat that im running.

it really is the best policy.

though i did the run, it felt like kaka. and the whole time im saying to myself, “just because you have a crappy run doesnt mean everything sucks. It just means that today you werent feeling it for some reason and you will feel better tomorrow”

i stuck it out even when i wanted to stop running.

3k 30 minutes.

ive been futzing with the time vs distance thing. im not sure if its better to get my speed up or get my endurance up at a lower speed.

I heard about a running club in Cuidad Colon which is about 20 minutes from my house. Im still a little nervous doing things with groups of people who only speak spanish. its stupid and unfounded fear since I get along quite well and can absolutely hold my own n a conversation.

but joining the club would mean that i get to run in the above landscape

3.5 run today by 8:30am.
feet didnt cramp up at all which was great but I was tired because we both woke up at 3:45 am and could NOT get back to sleep.
the wine didnt help either.
planned out all my stupid meals (which i kind of hate doing) because we are going out to dinner tonight and i have to make sure im in my range before i even eat lunch. Then if i have to adjust, i can.
today to do list:
• run
• send out letters of introduction to recovery facilities
• draft etsy email for Jessica (my other job is being an editor of an online DIY blog)
• call landlord about broken gate
• study Spanish for 1 hour
• do minor household chores before company tonight
• buy wedding gifts for 2 sets of friends
im sure there is more but i cant remember them right now.

i suppose i should add goals for the year

i feel really shady about adding goals because so much depends on so much else.

but in the realm of things i have control over:

• study spanish- i mean for god sake, i live in a spanish speaking country and I have a private teacher and ive been at it for a year. I should be fluent already! i need to devote at least 3 hours a week (aside from the 1.5 hour class that i have) per week.

• spin fire- have been saying for 3 years now that I want to practice. i own the gear to do it. i really need to get on it.

• get my massage business moving a little quicker- right now i see 1-3 clients a week which is lovely for training, not so lovely for making money and relieving my wife of some of the burden of caring for us

eeerrrgggh! this is where it gets dodgy…

• run a marathon- i will explain at some point in the future why this is not just a given based on training and will power.
